Stay in our peaceful hideaway, surrounded by nature.

Lee Copse Cottage is an ideal base for walkers, wildlife enthusiasts, birdwatchers, couples and families who want to enjoy and explore the countryside, coast and beaches of North Devon.

The cottage is within the steep hillside garden of Lee Copse, in the shelter of lush mature oak woodland on the edge of the pretty village of Berrynarbor, with sweeping views towards the village and surrounding countryside.

The Cottage

The accommodation is on one floor and comprises a living/dining area and a well-appointed kitchen area with electric hob and oven, fridge, dishwasher and washer/dryer. There are two bedrooms and a separate bathroom. The cottage sleeps four in one double and two single beds. It has a wood burning stove to warm the chilly spring and autumn evenings. The cottage doesn't have WiFi or a TV, to allow you to get away from the busyness of everyday life and connect with nature. There is very good 4G mobile signal here.

There is parking space on-site and a short path leads to the cottage.

Please note that we can't accept dogs, as there is lots of wildlife around.

The area

This part of North Devon is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Exmoor National Park boundary is only half a mile from Berrynarbor. The heart of the National Park can be reached by car in forty five minutes and the spectacular coastal villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, linked by the historic cliff railway, are half an hour away. Ilfracombe (a 10 minute drive away) is a small coastal town, with a pretty working harbour, where you can find supermarkets, independent shops, a cinema and The Landmark Theatre.

The rugged North Devon and Exmoor Coast provdes fabulous opportunities for walking and sightseeing, including along the South West Coast Path. Berrynarbor village is a Conservation Area with numerous historic buildings including the impressive church of St Peter which dates from the 12th century and the Manor Court.

The village has a seventeenth century pub, the Olde Globe, which serves food and real ales in a cosy setting, and a community shop with a good range of local specialities as well as basic food and drinks.

Photos of woods

The woods

Lee Copse is two acres of semi-natural ancient woodland, a fragment of scarce woodland largely unmanaged for farming since 1600, which is part of a larger wooded area. There are mature oaks, including one veteran tree, sycamore, ash, holly and hazel. Paths lead directly from the cottage through the wood (note that paths on the slopes are steep in places and there are a number of flights of steps). The copse is a haven for numerous birds and other wildlife, including badgers and roe deer, which are sometimes glimpsed in the evening. Deer occasionally come down to the cottage to graze. Start your day with a wander through the copse early in the morning surrounded by birdsong.
